Community Meal Staff

Job Opportunity

The New Community Shelter is looking for Meal Staff that will focus on food production as well as focus on the volunteer experience through engagement and mobilization.   During the course of a shift, all Meal Staff will work as a team and lend assistance to one another as needed. All Meal Staff will be required to fulfill the respective areas of focus based upon the needs of each shift.  The end-result of Meal Staff efforts should be the fulfillment of all duties expressed below.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Kitchen operations: 
-Plan and execute daily menu in coordination with volunteer meal groups, using donated food, while maintaining high quality balanced meals.
-Organize and monitor meal service
-Oversee the preparation and/or serving  of meals provided by volunteer groups

Volunteer Services: 
-Work in cooperation with the Community meal coordinator to host and mobilize volunteers from the community who are onsite for kitchen prep and meal service shifts each day, resulting in an excellent volunteer experience.
-Anticipate and prepare for the volunteers before each meal shift

  • Inventory Management: 
    -Maintains and rotates food storage  areas in a matter that is organized , maintains standard operating procedures and keeps areas free of clutter


  • Food Safety: 
    -Follow practices of personal hygiene, food handling practices, and proper cleaning and sanitizing methods.
    -Maintain daily food safety policies, procedures , and required department logs

REQUIREMENTS
-Previous cooking and commercial kitchen experience helpful but not necessary.
-ServeSafe certified or ability to fulfill certification within 90 days of hire.
-Willingness to work, evenings, weekends, and holidays as assigned.
