Community Meal Staff

Job Opportunity

Now Hiring: Part-Time Community Meal Staff
Come stir up something amazing at New Community Shelter!

Do you love food, people, and making a real difference in your community?
Our Community Meal Program serves dinner 365 days a year and lunch on weekends and holidays — and we’re looking for Part-Time Community Meal Staff to help make it all happen.

This isn’t just a kitchen job. It’s about creating a welcoming, dignified, and fun experience for our guests and our volunteers.
Bonus: If you're pursuing any career in human services, social work, education, nonprofit work, counseling, criminal justice, or ANY field where you work with or help people — this position looks fantastic on a résumé and gives you hands-on experience employers love.

What You’ll Be Doing

You’ll be part of a small, supportive team that works together every shift to make sure meals get cooked, served, and enjoyed — and that volunteers have an awesome experience.

Kitchen Operations

  • -Plan and execute a daily menu in coordination with volunteer meal groups
  • -Use donated food creatively to serve high-quality, balanced meals
  • -Organize and monitor meal service so everything runs smoothly
  • -Oversee the preparation and/or serving of meals with volunteer groups

Volunteer Services

  • -Work closely with the Community Meal Coordinator to host, guide, and energize volunteers from the community
  • -Anticipate what volunteers will need and prep the kitchen and service area before each shift
  • -Help ensure every volunteer leaves feeling appreciated and excited to come back

Inventory Management

  • -Keep food storage areas neat, organized, and rotated
  • -Follow standard operating procedures so everything is easy to find and ready to use
  • -Help keep work areas free of clutter and safe for everyone

Food Safety

  • -Practice excellent personal hygiene and safe food handling
  • -Follow proper cleaning and sanitizing methods
  • -Maintain daily food safety policies, procedures, and required department logs

What We’re Looking For

You might be a great fit if you:

  • -Enjoy cooking and working with food (previous commercial kitchen experience is helpful but not required)
  • -Like working as part of a team and pitching in wherever needed
  • -Are comfortable working evenings, weekends, and holidays as assigned
  • -Are friendly, dependable, and care about people

If you’ve ever thought, “I want my job to matter,” this is that kind of job.

Benefits & Pay

  • -Competitive wage based on experience
  • -403(b) Retirement Plan

Full-time employees (30–39 hours/week) are also eligible for:

  • -Health & Dental Insurance
  • -Paid time off & holidays

(This posting is for a part-time position, but we want you to know what’s available if your hours increase in the future.)
