Substance Use Disorder Counselor
Position Overview:
New Community Shelter is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Substance Use Disorder Counselor to join our team. The counselor will provide professional, client-centered substance use counseling services, both individually and in groups, in accordance with Wisconsin state standards and best practices. The ideal candidate will bring creativity, empathy, and professionalism to their role, while collaborating closely with case managers and the Program Director to support residents in achieving recovery goals and long-term stability.
Key Responsibilities:
- -Facilitate a minimum of two (2) recovery groups per week, utilizing models such as AA, NA, or other evidence-based recovery programs.
- -Provide individual counseling sessions tailored to client needs, ensuring a balance of support, accountability, and empowerment.
- -Develop and implement creative, engaging group and individual programming that fosters recovery, resilience, and community.
- -Collaborate with case managers and the Program Director to coordinate care, share insights, and support holistic client progress.
- -Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential documentation in compliance with Wisconsin state requirements for Substance Use Disorder Counselors.
- -Assess client needs and develop individualized treatment plans that align with both client goals and program expectations.
- -Uphold professional standards and ethical guidelines as defined by Wisconsin state licensure requirements.
- -Contribute to a positive, respectful, and team-oriented work environment.
- -Maintain up-to-date knowledge of evidence-based practices, state regulations, and community resources.
Schedule:
-Full-time position, Monday through Friday (40 hours/week).
-Flexibility to set your own schedule, with the expectation of availability to meet client and program needs.
Qualifications:
-Current certification or licensure in Wisconsin as a Substance Use Disorder Counselor (SAC, CSAC, or equivalent).
-Experience facilitating recovery groups and providing individual counseling preferred.
-Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
-Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
-Commitment to professional ethics, boundaries, and ongoing development.
-Creativity and adaptability in developing engaging group activities and one-on-one sessions.
