Transitional Living
Safe and Supportive Environments
The New Community Shelter offers a range of services, and our Transitional Living Program is one part of that support. People do not move straight into a transitional apartment. Everyone starts in our Emergency Shelter Program, where staff assess needs, offer support, and help decide the best next step
Some residents need more time, structure, and support before they are ready for independent housing. Living together in a structured setting can help them make that transition.
Our Transitional Living Program offers 20 single-occupancy onsite apartments, with five reserved for military veterans. Residents may stay for up to two years while addressing the issues that prevent their transition to permanent housing. They apply to enter the program and pay a monthly program fee, which helps them build a realistic housing budget while keeping full access to our supportive services.
Starting in 2026, we will offer Permanent Supportive Housing for people who finish our program but are still at high risk of becoming homeless again. This support is for people facing addiction, older adults who have lost stable housing, those dealing with mental health or medical issues, and people with cognitive or developmental disabilities. Many of these individuals have lived with family most of their lives and need ongoing support to live on their own.
